Beehive Science & Technology Academy’s two robotics teams — The Hive and BeeSTAR — will compete amongst the world’s best April 16-19 in Houston. The Hive will compete against other students in seventh through 12th grades in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Challenge and BeeSTAR will compete in the FIRST LEGO League championship, for fourth grade through eighth grade. The Hive qualified by winning the Inspire Award and was the winning alliance captain while BeeSTAR won the state champion’s award. The teams also have given thousands of hours in serving the community through volunteering and outreach. The Hive founded a robotics team to give a deaf student in West Virginia a chance to compete while BeeSTAR presented at the Society of Women Engineers Girls in STEM Day. “These kids are inspiring to those (who) meet them and (are) amazing in their impact to their community,” BeeSTAR coach Ben Holt said.
